Dr. Colman Noctor is a rock of sense.
He brings the same dry wit, empathy and deep knowledge to everything he does, whether it’s the Ray Darcy show, his newspaper columns or his many speaking engagements.
As we might have expected, when we asked him for his New Year wellness tips, he kept it simple. Here’s what he had to say.
- Taper your expectations.
There is a simple formula for Happiness. Expectation – Reality = Happiness
We cannot do much about our reality, but we can adjust our expectations. Be realistic with your goals for 2023 and expect challenges; they are inevitable.
- Avoid the temptation of ‘extreme’ change and opt for consistency over intensity.
If you want to go fast, go intensely. But if you want to go far, go with consistency.
- Remember that a lapse is not the same as a relapse.
When we try new things, we will inevitably drop the ball on occasion. Failure is not about falling down, it is about refusing to get back up. If your attempt to change in 2023 fails, your response to that failure will prove more important in determining your long-term success than the failure itself.
